Lions recognize supporters as they head into summer

By Lion Michael Harris

Ladies Night at the Westport Lions Den was the last hurrah before the summer break from general club meetings; the executive is empowered to manage business till we reconvene in September. Members brought their wives, or in the case of the Lionesses their husbands. We might have to think of a new name for Ladies Night, especially if we get a lot of new members of the fairer sex.

The main event of the night, apart from the excellent roast beef meal of course, was President Don Baker acknowledging the many, who had made his first year as president a success.   A special thank you and a card signed by all the Lions went to Jeannette Harper for managing the kitchen and turning out excellent meals at modest cost for as many people as necessary on a regular basis. Don gave special thanks to Bob Reddick, club secretary and Jim Scala the treasurer for tirelessly giving of their time to make club operations run smoothly. Appreciation plaques were also presented to Donna Garland, Betty Ann Murphy, Laurie Scala, Jane Knox, Pat Reddick, Pat McGregor and Penny Warriner for major support on various activities and events during the year.

On a personal note the President and club members have gone out of their way to make new members, including myself, feel welcome. No easy task but essential to growing the membership. Lions International report substantial growth in membership worldwide, very gratifying to know there are so many good hearted people in a world where the news often seems to be some new horror on a regular basis. Maybe you should think about becoming a Lion and helping the local community. We would love to see you at the Lions Beach House on September 9th, our next general meeting. Till then wishing you a great summer from Westport Lions Club.
