What does Canada mean to me? That is a question every Canadian should ask themselves. I suspect the responses from a new Canadians would vary greatly from citizens that were born in Canada. Also, it would be interesting to know what a young child thinks of, when you say the word Canada.
Lion Peter Minnelli wants to discover the meaning of Canada from the perspective of a six- to twelve-year-old. To facilitate this Lion Peter created a Kids Canada Day Drawing Contest with the theme, What Does Canada Mean to Me?
All young people from age six to twelve living in the Westport area are eligible to enter a drawing contest showing: what Canada means to them. Prizes will be awarded for the top three drawings in each age group.
Vanilla Bean of Westport has generously donated prizes for first, second and third winners in all age categories. The Westport Lions thank Vanilla Bean for their support.
Prize winners’ drawings will be on display at the Lions Club Beach on July 1. Drawings will be judged on artistic merit, originality, and creative use of Canadian symbols.
Contest entries must be received by the Lions Club by Monday, June 26, 2023.
To enter the contest, please use an 8 ½” x 11” blank sheet of paper. At the top of your sheet print, What Does Canada Mean to Me? At the bottom, print your name and age, and on the backside of your sheet write your telephone number (or email address) so the club can contact you.
The young artists have four ways of getting their creations to the Westport Lions Club:
- Scan your drawing and send it to westportontariolions@gmail.com;
- Mail it to Westport Lions Club, PO Box 428, Westport, Ontario K0G 1X0;
- Drop it off a Kudrinko’s, 22 Main Street, Westport;
- Give your drawing to any Lions club member.
Good luck and have fun.
The Westport Lions need two small bales of hay or straw for a bale roll on Canada Day. The idea is for young people to roll a bale of hay for a designate length. The president of the Tamworth Lions Club said it was the most enjoyable event they held at their Canada Day festivities, so the Westport Lions thought the club would give it a try. If you have a couple of bales of hay or straw that you could give the Westport Lions, please drop them off at the Lions community garden next to Westport’s water tower or at the garage at the beach. You can contact us at 613-273-5789 or by email, westportontariolions@gmail.com.
