The Westport Lions Beach on Westport Sand Lake is privately owned and operated by the club for your enjoyment.

The Westport Lions Beach is a great source of pride for the Westport Lions, but it takes many people to keep it in pristine condition.  During this summer season, 25 volunteers will cut the grass weekly and seven days a week clean the beach and washrooms.

The Westport Lions would like to recognize and thank the dedicated crew that maintain the Lions beach for your enjoyment.  If you happento see one of the following cleaners cleaning the washrooms or picking up garbage, please say thank you.  The washroom cleaners are Cait Maloney and her grandson Brayden Lynch, Philip Hammond, Lion Bob Reddick, Peggy and Bob Thompson, Wendy Briggs-Jude, Lion Dorothy Maynard, Joan Barrett, Kim Donovan & Marco Wey, Kevin Latimer and spare, Lion Glenn Wilcox.  Lion Marty Hawkins locks the washrooms every night until the middle of June, when Chris Hartley and Marty will share the task. The club thanks these unpaid volunteers.

The beach cleaning crew lead by Lion Wayne Bent consists of Lions Dale Lyons, Bruce Paterson, Dorothy Maynard, and Smokey Sherwood. Again, the Westport Lions thank these volunteers for removing the weeds from the beach seven days a week.

The grass cutting crew consists of Lions Jim McGlade, Wayne “Smokey” Sherwood, Bob Reddick, and Harry Beckett.

The cleaners are always pleasantly surprised how clean they find the washrooms and grounds.  The club thanks all patrons for respecting the property and taking their garbage with them.  The club would like to commend the young people that play volleyball at the beach in evenings.  They never leave litter and are always polite and respectful.  This gives one great hope for the future.

The club kindly asks dog owners to keep their dog on a leash and clean up any doggy pooh.  Many children enjoy running around in bare feet, and it is not fair to ask volunteers to clean up after other people’s pets.  Also, please keep all animals large and small out of the swimming area.  The beach is regularly tested and in the past, we had to close the beach because of the high fecal count. The Lions appreciate the co-operation of the public in this matter.

It is the wish of Westport Lions Club that everyone enjoys our beautiful beach and grounds, and it continues to be a cherished delight.
