Come to Westport Lions Club beach on July 15 to enjoy live music by Harry Adrain and Friends and play beach volleyball.

Westport Lions Roar

By Lion Bob Reddick

The Westport Lions Beach will rock on Saturday, July 15.  Combining Westfest with Rock the Beach Volleyball Tournament will result in plenty of action for everyone.

Beginning at noon, Westfest will feature the music of Harry Adrain and Friends.  Food will be available throughout the afternoon.  This free event is sponsored again this year by Josh Doornekamp of Aarde Construction.  Arade, which means earth in Dutch specializes in foundations, grading, excavating and septic systems. The Westport Lions thanks Josh and his company for his generous support.

On the same day the Westport Lions will host their nineth annual beach volleyball tournament.  The entrance fee of $120 and the registration formmust be submitted byWednesday,July 12th.  The first ten teams to submit their entry fee and email the application form to breddick@rideau.net are in the tournament. Teams that email their registration form but do not submit the entry fee will be placed on a waiting list. The club will accept teams on a first-come basis, so it is important to get your registration fee and form in a.s.a.p.  You can send a cheque to Westport Lions Club, Box 428, Westport, ON K0G 1X0, or send an e-transfer to breddick@rideau.net.  The rain date will be Sunday, July 16. If you have any questions, please call or text Lion Bob Reddick at 613-583-2062 or email him at breddick@rideau.net.   All information about the tournament, including the registration form is posted on the club’s website, westportlions.ca, or our Westport Lions Facebook page.

The schedule will be determined once the club knows the number of teams in each division.  The tournament can accommodate ten teams.  There will be two divisions, one will be competitive (for players that play beach volleyball regularly) and a non-competitive division (for everyone else).  Both divisions will play co-ed four versus four. We have two courts, so each team is guaranteed to play multiple games.  To encourage a fun, non-competitive atmosphere, each team must have at least one male and one female on the court. Win or lose, all players will receive prizes.

All you do to register is have your team captain submit the entry fee ($120) and complete the registration form found on the Lions’ website (westportlions.ca)

As a bonus, massage therapy students from Trillium College in Kingston will provide free massages at the beach on July 15.

Come early to the Lions Beach, bring a lawn chair, enjoy great swimming, and witness tremendous volleyball while listening to Harry Adrain and Friends.
