Westport Lions Roar

By Lion Bob Reddick

Saturday, July 15, will be a busy day for the Westport and Athens Lions Clubs.  Seven volunteers from the Westport Club will help the Athens Lions with their weekend-long Farmerville Exhibition.

The Athens Club has expanded the usual vintage vehicle displays to include truck, tractor, horse, and new lawnmower pulls.   Another new event that promises to entertain both the participant and viewer is JED, the mechanical bull.   There will be something to please the whole family, live country music throughout the weekend, children’s events and numerous vendors and crafters. Please google Farmersville Exhibition to check out all the events and schedule.

The Westport Lions will host two events at the Lions Club Beach on the same day.  Westfest will begin at noon and run until 5:00 p.m.  Harry Adrain and Friends will provide the music, and food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available.  This event is to thank the community for its incredible support.  Once again, this event is made possible by the generous sponsorship of Josh Doornekamp, owner OAarde Engineered Construction.

Also, this Saturday, another group of Lions will organize the ninth Rock the Beach Volleyball Tournament at the beach.   For many players, this is their favourite tournament of the season because of the beautiful setting, great competition, and prizes for everyone.  This year’s tournament attracted 11 teams from as far away as Ottawa, Kingston and Kemptville.

As a bonus, massage therapy students from Trillium College in Kingston will provide free massages.

Combining live music, great volleyball, a beautiful beach, food, and free massages is the recipe for a festive day at the beach.

As always, on Friday and Saturday during the summer season, a group of Lions will be ready to serve you at the Reuse and Recycle Centre located at 5295 Salem Road from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  Tickets are now available for the Westport Lions’ $10,000 Draw.  This elimination draw will start at the Lions Beach at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023.  There are only 250 tickets printed, and each ticket costs $100.  You can purchase a ticket from any Lion or by contacting the club by emailing westportontariolions@gmail.com.
