Westport Lions Roar
By Lion Bob Reddick
For many people, September is the start of a new year, especially for students, teachers, and athletes. For others, it is returning to regular routines and activities after taking time off during the summer. Now would be an excellent time to consider volunteering or joining the Westport Lions Club.
International President Dr. Patti Hill, who is Canadian and only the second woman to be international president, has launched Mission 1.5. This initiative will endeavour to take the membership worldwide from 1.4 to 1.5 million by June 30, 2027. President Hill believes the greatest service Lions can provide is to introduce new Lions to Lionism, who in turn can provide more service to our communities.
It is imperative that the Westport Lions Club grows and attracts new members and volunteers to meet the challenges of changing times. The more members we have, the better we can serve our community and provide innovative and fresh approaches to service projects.
The Westport Lions currently have at least 20 service activities, plus numerous fundraising events so the club can offer financial support for not-for-profit community organizations and individuals in need. In addition, the club needs members and volunteers for maintenance and administrative jobs that are necessary to keep the club running smoothly.
The benefits of being a member are individual and numerous. By joining, you will learn about the community’s needs and how to help, establish strong community roots, organize events that bring people together to celebrate, learn from others’ experiences, assess leadership opportunities, and build friendships.
Becoming a member of the Westport Lions involves finding a sponsor among current members, filling out an application form, attending three general membership meetings, and receiving approval from the executive team. The club’s membership chairperson, Lion Kim Kelly, will meet with you to explain the expectations of the club and answer any questions you may have.
To learn more about the club and become a member, visit our website, westportlions.ca, or contact our Membership Secretary, Lion Kim Kelly at westportontariolions@gmail.com or leave a message at 613-273-5789.
Go forward in life with a twinkle in your eye and a smile on your face but with a great and strong purpose in your heart.
