The Westport Lions Club distributed 325 Christmas cakes to area seniors on the morning of December 2. In addition, they delivered cakes to former residents of Westport and area that now reside in Carolina Court, Lanark Lodge, and the Perth Community Care Centre.
The students at Rideau Vista Public School and St. Edward’s Catholic School wrote Christmas wishes on 90 cards that were attached to the cakes. The Westport Lions Club received many notes from seniors thanking the students for their thoughtful wishes. In the past, some seniors and young people have continued to correspond, which is a positive learning experience for all involved.
The Westport Lions recognize that not all seniors received a cake and tried to rectify any omissions. The membership does its best, but the senior demographic is a very fluid group. People move into and out of the area, pass away, some are not home at the time of delivery, and not all seniors wish to receive a cake. If you are over 65 and wish to receive a Christmas cake next year, please contact the Westport Lions Club at westportontariolions@gmail.com or call 613-273-5789 and leave a message with your civic address.
On Wednesday, December 13 at 6:45 p.m. the Westport Lions Club will give out disbursement cheques to all the organizations that have been notified. This event will take place at the Lions’ Den located at 63 Mountain Road. This photo opportunity is a great way to promote your organization.
Please note that funding application forms must be received by the Westport Lions Club before the deadline to ensure your organization is considered for funding. There is a limited amount of money for community funding, and the club wants to make sure that the club’s distribution of funds is fair and equitable. The Westport Lions Club suggests putting a reminder in your calendar to apply for funding in September or March. Application forms for funding can be found on the club’s website, westportlions.ca.
