Westport Lions Roar

Soon, the Lions Club Beach will be filled with laughing children, family picnics, beach volleyball games, and people reading their books in the shade; everyone enjoying the sights and sounds of the east shore of Westport’s Sand Lake.

This popular beach, owned and operated by the Westport Lions Club, wouldn’t be possible without the generous community members who support our fundraising events and activities, and the many, many volunteer hours contributed by Club Members and Volunteers under the leadership of Lions Wayne Bent and Bob Reddick.

Did you know that every single day between the last week of May and the end of September, members and volunteers are opening and cleaning the changerooms/washrooms, they’re running a tractor to rake the beach sand, checking the grounds for lost items and picking up any garbage that was left behind from the day before, and then closing the changerooms at the end of the day. Every single day. On top of that, every week, a handful of Club Members form a landscaping crew that mows and trims the grass.

Why do we spend so many hours maintaining the beach? Because we love seeing people enjoy this beautiful piece of paradise right here in our own community.

What’s new this year?

Upgrades are in the works right now to refurbish the change rooms (thank you to Members Craig Jackson & Smokey Sherwood)
The parking lot has been expanded (thank you Hales Excavation)
Trees have been removed that were causing a safety hazard (thank you to Charlie Norwood and the Maddens)
The gazebo has been refurbished and painted Lions colours (thank you to Smokey and your crew)

Shop at or Donate to the Reuse & Recycle Centre
Make a donation anytime to the Westport Lions Club
Make sure you visit the beach this spring and summer. After all, you’re the reason the Lions are doing this, every single day.
