Westport Lions Roar
By Lion Peter Minnelli
The vast majority of Canadians would agree that Canada is a very special place but people would likely have a wide range of answers as to what that “special” might be. Is it our unique history? Our great contributions to the world? Or is it scenic wonders of incredible beauty like Banff, Gros Morne National Park or Westport?
To find out from the perspective of a six to 12 year old, the Westport Lions Club is sponsoring a special children’s drawing contest for Canada Day. The theme is: What makes Canada a special place?
All young people from age six to twelve living in the Westport area are eligible to enter a drawing contest showing: what makes Canada special to them. Prizes will be awarded for the top two drawings in each age group.
Drawings will be judged on artistic merit, originality, and creative use of Canadian symbols. Prize winners’ drawings will be on display at the Lions Club Beach on July 1.
Vanilla Bean of Westport has once again generously donated prizes for winners in all age categories. The Westport Lions thank Vanilla Bean for their ongoing support.
Contest entries must be received by the Lions Club by Monday, June 25, 2024.
To enter the contest, please use an 8 ½” x 11” blank sheet of paper. At the top of your sheet print, What Makes Canada a Special Place? At the bottom, print your name and age, and on the backside of your sheet write your telephone number (or email address) so the club can contact you.
The young artists have three ways of getting their creations to the Westport Lions Club:
1. Scan your drawing and send it to westportontariolions@gmail.com;
2. Mail it to Westport Lions Club, PO Box 428, Westport, Ontario K0G 1X0;
3. Give your drawing to any Lions club member.
Good luck and have fun.
