WESTPORT LIONS 2024 BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

The Westport Lions 10^th annual Beach Volleyball Tournament was held under clear blue skies and blazing sun on Saturday July 13^th at Lions Beach Park. Eight Competitive teams battled through 36 round robin games and 7 playoff games vying for the title of Westport Lions 2024 Rock the Beach Volleyball champion. Thanks to all the teams and participants that made the 2024 event a huge success. Teams from Westport, Kingston, Ottawa came to Westport to participate in this year’s tournament. 2023 champion Block Party from Kingston returned to defend their title against a strong field of competitors.

In round robin action Having Fun placed 1^st with a perfect record of 7 wins. Last years champions Block Party, from Kingston, finished in 2^nd place with their only loss to Having Fun. Washed up came in 3^rd with 5 wins and 2 losses. Kingston’s K-Town Day One were 4^th followed by New Kids on the Block, Team Name from Westport, Clean Up Crew with Spartans rounding out the standing. Scores were very close all day with good competition between teams.

Quarter final playoff games were best 2 out of 3 knock out matches:

Having Fun defeated Spartans

Washed Up defeated Team Name

Block Party defeated Clean Up Crew

K-Town Day One defeated New Kids on the Block

In semi final action Having Fun advanced to the finals by edging K Town Day 1 in a hard-fought game. Kingston’s Block Party defeated Washed Up advancing to the championship round.

Block Party and Having Fun squared off in the best 2 out of 3 championship matches. The lead in both games went back and forth with Block Party winning the first game and Having Fun rebounding to take the 2^nd game. Having Fun outlasted Block Party in the 3^rd game in a very close game. The athleticism of these 2 squads was fantastic to watch with players jumping high to spike or defend and diving to save balls from hitting the sand.

Congratulations to Kingston’s Having Fun team for winning the title of 2024 Westport Lions Rock the Beach Volleyball Champion. Team members are Kurt MacComish, Brady DaCosta, Maddie Love and Travis Irvine.

Every player in the tournament was awarded prizes.
