Two Westportian families became $5,000 richer after winning the Westport Lions Club’s annual $10,000 Draw this past weekend.
Under the leadership of Lion Dorothy Maynard, and with help from Volunteer Barb Fritz’s, this popular elimination draw was held at the Lion’s Beach on Monday September 2nd under beautiful sunny skies.
Two-hundred and fifty (250) tickets were sold by Lions Members & Volunteers over the summer at $100 each. On the day of the Draw, with Lion Marty as MC and other members and volunteers helping out, the ticket numbers were pulled one at a time until two tickets were left.
While the grand prize is $10,000, ticket buyers indicate at purchase time, whether they would split the prize 50/50 if they end up being one of the last two tickets left in the draw.
Such was the case with this year’s winners, Alyssa & Skylar Hudson and Jerry & Lynn Tobin.
In addition to the grand prize, ticket holders have an opportunity to win their ticket money back, through other small prize payouts during the draw. These lucky winners were Joyce Serson, John Norwood, Sara Brown and Mark Herlehy.
Once prizes are paid out, the Lion’s Club uses the proceeds to support many local non-profit and charitable groups and clubs, elementary and high schools, the arts, sports teams and clubs, through our annual Fall and Spring Disbursements. To find out how you can apply for your group, team or club, visit the Westport Lions Club website and search under Applications for Funding Requests. The deadline to apply for Fall Disbursements is October 1st.
$10,000 Draw tickets will be on sale again in the Summer of 2025.

In the meantime, to support your local Lions Club, and in-turn, your community, you can visit our Reuse & Recycle Centre on Salem Road just outside of Westport to donate or buy household items or to drop off metal or electronic recycling. The R&R Centre will be open on Fridays and Saturdays 9:00-1:00 until October 5th when it closes up for the colder months, reopening again next Spring.
Lions Members and Volunteers will also be busy in the coming months as we harvest the Community Garden which supports the local Food Bank, prep the beach for the fall/winter months, and plan for Halloween, the Santa Parade, Christmas Cakes for Seniors, the Toy Drive and 2025 Lottery Calendars.
