Westport Lions Roar
By Lion Bob Reddick
The Westport Lions Club passed a motion on November 13 to donate a total of $19,078 to 15 different organizations in their fall disbursements. These donations were possible because of the generous support of the community and the hard work of Lion members and volunteers.
Disbursements are made twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall. The primary sources of revenue for these donations are the club’s Cash Calendar sales, $10,000 Draw and $1,500 Spring Draw. A secondary source of funds for the disbursements comes from the Reuse and Recycle Centre.
Funding requests are submitted through written application forms available on the club’s website. These applications are reviewed by the Disbursement Committee, which is composed of Lions Larry Arsenault, Wayne Bent, and Bruce Maynard.
The committee evaluates each application based on established criteria, which include support for youth and seniors, alignment with at least one of the eight pillars of Lionism, provisions for alleviating pain, suffering, or financial hardship due to illness or disaster, and benefits to the local community.
The Disbursement Committee makes recommendations to the Executive and then to the membership for final approval.
Applications for spring funding should be completed and submitted to the club by April 1, 2025.
Westport Lions Christmas Parade
By Lion Bob Reddick
On Saturday, November 23, starting at 2:00 p.m., the annual Westport Lions Christmas parade will take place. This year’s theme is a Teddy Bear Wonderland. Prizes will be given for the most creative, festive, and community-oriented floats. Please register your entry with Jan at jan.gagnon411@gmail.com or Craig at craigjackson0110@gmail.com.
If you wish to bring Christmas joy to area children through the Westport Lions Annual Toy Drive, please visit the Angel Tree at Kudrinko’s. Each angel represents a child in need, and the club invites you to choose one to help make the child’s holiday special. If your family needs assistance, please email Jan at jan.gagnon4dd1@gmail.com as soon as possible. Let’s unite to spread joy and make this holiday season brighter for our local children.
Please note that the parade route has changed this year. The parade will start at Circle K, travel down Concession Street to Sanctuary Way, then turn right onto Shelter Cove Drive. It will then proceed down New Haven Gate to Bedford Street until it reaches Church Street. The parade will travel down Church Street until Rideau, then return to Concession Street and back to Circle K.
