The Medical Mobility Service relies on the generous support of the community, the dedicated van drivers, and the hard work and commitment of Lion Harry Beckett, who serves as dispatcher and driver.
In recognition of Harry’s dedication to the MMS and his involvement in other Lion activities, such as lawn maintenance and painting the gazebo, he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award by President Dorothy Maynard on March 26. This award is the highest recognition of Lions Clubs and embodies the humanitarian ideas and purposes of Lionism.
Before Harry knew he was going to receive the award, he mentioned, “I just love driving and being the dispatcher. My volunteer drivers of Wendy Briggs-Jude, Leonard Merkley, Dave Counter, Kevin Latimer, Bruce Wallace, Bruce Paterson, Julian Bahmann, Dave Blair and Dorothy Maynard make it special for me.”
Lion Harry Beckett is one of those individuals who quietly goes about serving the community without fanfare or seeking recognition. The Westport Lions congratulate Harry on this well-deserved honour.
