At our last general meeting on Wednesday, April 23, the membership passed a motion to donate $17,450 to 20 organizations. The club is able to make these contributions thanks to the hard work of Lion members and volunteers, as well as the exceptional support from our community. Revenue generated from the Lions’ Reuse and Recycle Centre plays a big part in our ability to fund community organizations as well as our annual fundraiser events, such as our Fish Fry. This event will be held on Saturday, June 7, at the Lions Sand Lake Beach house located at 63 Mountain Road. Takeout will be available from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., and dining both inside or outside starts at 5:00 p.m. and runs until 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and are available from any Lions member or by contacting the club through its Facebook page. While the club suggests buying tickets in advance, they will also be available for purchase at the door.
Another current fundraiser is the $1,500 Cash Draw, which will take place on Tuesday, July 1, at the Lions Beach Clubhouse. The winning tickets will be drawn at 2:00 p.m. In addition to the grand prize of $1,500, there will be a second prize of $500 and three additional prizes of $50 each. Tickets are $10 each or three for $20. The Westport Lions are grateful to Rosebush Energies for sponsoring this draw.
The Westport Lions are thankful to all the people who contributed to our Medical Mobility Service breakfast. Donations are still being collected, bringing the total to $8,900. A special thanks goes to The Cove, which donated $450 from their dinner show featuring 80s Enuff on April 26.
Congratulations to several Lions for recently receiving a Milestone Chevron Award in recognition of their years of dedicated service to the community. The award, named after the chevron symbol that represents rank or length of service, was presented to the following members: Lion Terry Bryan for 45 years of service, Don Baker for 20 years, Bob Reddick for 15 years, and Craig Jackson, Michael Harris, and Harry Beckett for 10 years each.
