Come to Westport Lions Club beach on July 12 for the Westport Lions 11th Annual Volleyball Tournament.
Westport Lions Roar
By Lion Bob Reddick
There will be plenty of action at the Westport Lions Beach on Saturday, July 12th with the Lions’ 11th annual Rock the Beach Volleyball Tournament. The entrance fee of $120.00 and the registration formmust be submitted byWednesday,July 9th. The first ten teams to submit their entry fee and email the application form to breddick@rideau.net are in the tournament. The club will accept teams on a first-come basis, so it is important to get your registration fee and form in a.s.a.p. You can send an e-transfer to breddick@rideau.net. The rain date will be Sunday, July 13. If you have any questions, please call or text Lion Bob Reddick at 613-583-2062 or email him at breddick@rideau.net. All information about the tournament, including the registration form is posted on the club’s website, westportlions.ca, or our Westport Lions Facebook page.
There will be two divisions in the tournament, a competitive division for players who regularly play beach volleyball and a non-competitive division for just fun. Both divisions will play co-ed four versus four. We have two courts, so each team is guaranteed to play multiple games. To encourage a fun, non-competitive atmosphere, each team must have at least one male and one female on the court. Win or lose, all players will receive prizes. This year we are excited to secure vouchers for two free rounds of golf and dinner for five people.
To register, the team captain needs to submit the entry fee of $120 and complete the registration form available on the Lions’ website (westportlions.ca).
As an added bonus, massage therapy students from Trillium College in Kingston will be on-site to provide free massages at the beach on July 12th.
The Club encourages you to arrive early at the Lions Beach, bring a lawn chair, enjoy great swimming, and witness some fantastic volleyball action.
Project coordinator, Lion Craig Jackson and Westport Lions would like to thank Lynn Brothers Construction for their exceptional work in completing some major repairs to the beach property. They removed an old convert and installed a new one to prevent the road and beach washouts during the spring and heavy rain storms. The company straightened our sign at the beach entrance, and removed the roof off the old change building. All these projects were completed on time, within budget and to a high quality of workmanship.
It has often been said that the strength of the Westport Lions Club comes from the support of non-members. The Club is seeking volunteer(s) to clean the beach washrooms and do a quick walkabout to collect litter. If you can assist the club, please contact Lion Craig Jackson at 613-913-6777 or by email at craigjackson0110@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you at the tournament!
