Lion members now have $10,000 elimination draw tickets available to purchase. There are only 260 tickets printed, so your odds of winning a prize are favourable. Each ticket costs $100. Alternatively, you can form a group to purchase a ticket and split the $10,000 grand prize.
The elimination draw will take place at the Lions’ beach starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6th. With the purchase of a ticket, you can enjoy a complimentary lunch consisting of roast beef on a kaiser roll with all the fixings, coleslaw, and a dessert square. Lunch will be served from noon to 1:00 p.m.
In addition to the grand prize of $10,000, you could also win several of the $100 prizes. The first ticket drawn wins $100, the 130th ticket drawn wins $100 as well as the 4th last ticket drawn and the 3rd last ticket drawn. The 2nd last ticket drawn could possibly win $100 if the last ticket drawn chooses not to split $10,000.
When purchasing a ticket, buyers must indicate whether they would like to split the prize 50/50 if they end up being one of the last two tickets remaining in the draw.
After the prizes are paid out, the Westport Lions Club uses the proceeds to support many local non-profit and charitable groups, elementary and high schools, the arts, sports teams and clubs, through our annual fall and spring disbursements. To find out how you can apply for your group, team, or club, visit the Westport Lions Club website and navigate to Applications for Funding Requests. The deadline to apply for Fall Disbursements is October 1st.
While the club generally takes July and August off from general meetings unless a decision needs to made, the membership and volunteers are still busy operating the Reuse and Recycle Centre (R & R) located at 5295 Salem Road. Every Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., you can donate or purchase household items, or to drop off metal and electronic recycling.
In addition to the management of the R & R Centre, a large crew is required to mow the grass, clean the beach washrooms and rake the beach seven days a week. During this time of year, the Westport Lions Community Garden also requires significant commitment to weed, water and harvest the 15 vegetable beds for the local food bank. As you can see, the Westport Lions are a busy group during the summer months and appreciate your support in various ways.
