Westport Lions Roar
By the Lions Reuse & Recycle Team
Volunteers are truly the heart and soul of the Westport Lions Reuse and Recycle Centre (R & R). They welcome everyone with big smiles and friendly chats, creating a warm and cheerful atmosphere. Our amazing team builds lasting relationships with regular customers who love to pop in on Fridays and Saturdays when we are open. While it’s always a bit sad to close for the chilly winter months, we are buzzing with excitement for spring and the chance to reopen our doors!
The R & R team is grateful to our shoppers, donors and donations for helping us keep items out of the landfill while offering wonderful treasures at great prices. Over the winter, think about what hidden gems you might have at home that could bring joy to someone else?
We have a notice board where people can share what they are looking for, and we let them know when those items arrive!
A huge shout-out to our fantastic team this year—we couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you to the management team of Lions Danny Lewis, Wayne Sherwood and Jeannette Harper. Lions that helped out this summer are Bruce Paterson, Bill Garland, Peter Minnelli, Wayne Bent, Dale Lyons, and David Lowery. Our wonderful volunteers rounded out the team: Lori, Chantal, Barb, Jennifer, Anna, Judi, Sharon, Sue, Isaac, Donna, Tim, Paul, Roger, George, Tom, Gary, Don, Roley, Dustin, Ryan, Wesley, Owen, Bruce W., Kevin, and Bev, as well as Jaxon our dedicated student volunteer. What a fantastic season it has been! We can’t wait to see familiar faces and some new friends next year!
You might be curious about where all the money goes. Well, it goes right back into our beloved Westport community! One of our favorite projects is the beach—who doesn’t love wiggling their toes in the soft, clean sand? The revenue we generate is essential for funding various Lions projects (feel free to check out our website for more details).
Throughout the year, you’ll spot our R and R volunteers and Lions Club members lending a hand in the community. From making delicious popcorn during Canada Day celebrations to selling raffle tickets, handing out Christmas cakes, raking the beach, cleaning restrooms, snow removal, and loaning medical equipment, we’re always busy! We also help with driving the mobility van, serving lunch for seniors, and soon we’ll be handing out treats for Halloween, followed by our fun involvement in the Santa Claus parade! The fun never ends!
The Lions Club is a vital part of the Westport community and thrives because of our amazing members and volunteers. We can’t wait for you to join us in the spring at the Recycle and Reuse shop, where wonderful treasures are just waiting to be discovered! See you soon!
