The Westport Lions Club met at the Beach House on Nov. 23 and put in place final plans for the 65th, Charter Night at the Legion Hall with 16 members present. A number of financial donations to local groups were approved and everyone was brought up to date on the recent safety check on the Mobility Van which is a very busy vehicle right now with the Volunteer Lions Club drivers at the wheel. Among donations was, $450. to the North Leeds Toy Drive; $500. to help out the Westport and area Food Bank, at this special time of year. Plans are in place for the Christmas dinner, hosted by the Lions Club at their Beach House on Sunday with Convenor, Lion Kevin Kardash and his crew in charge. Information received after the Santa Claus Parade revealed 200 lbs. of non-perishable food was collected by Lion Jim McGlade with his trusty ATV and trailer. Also the Club appreciates receiving $492. in donations collected by the Parade convenor, Lions Don Baker and Dwain Smith.
The Club approved a donation of $1,000. to the Jr. B. hockey team and Lion Pat McGinnis and his friendly Lions volunteers were on the road on Dec. 3 in Westport and will be again on Dec. 11 in Newboro with their gift of Christmas cakes and personal seasons greetings to the ill and elderly.
