As back to school adverts announce 2015 summer is ending here’s a round up of Westport Lions activities. Canada Day Festivities at the Lion’s beach were well attended with lot’s of interest for all the family and a fireworks finale. We took some ribbing when one of our own members won the door prize but it was all good fun.
Perfect weather helped make The Lions Beach Volley Ball Tournament a great success. Congratulations to the Sun Seekers team members Marben Espejo, Yannick Plante, Logan Morris and Lindsay Burtch for winning the title of Westport Lions Champions for 2015. Thanks again to Jeff and Cathy Rice for use of their court.
The Fish Fry on Saturday August 22nd evening had over 130 attendees. Everyone enjoyed the food and company and helped raise a good chunk of change for all our charity work. Thanks to everyone who attended and helped.
Lions Bingo every Wednesday at the Westport Community Centre during the summer. The last night was August 26th and 73 attendees played to win the cash prizes. Thanks very much to them and all the others during the summer for helping us in our fund raising, supporting the mobility van and all our other charitable work.
There has been some great beach weather and it is very gratifying for us to see the amount of use our beach gets. The new safety line is doing a good job at keeping boats away from swimmers and seems to be appreciated by beach users, especially those with little guys. Mind you I’m sure glad I wasn’t there one evening early August, it was that night with three moons in the sky and a warlock used the men’s washroom. He was so ugly that when he washed his hands he must have glanced in the mirror and broke it.
That’s all for now. Talk again in September……………Michael.R.Harris
