Chef for a day, Bryan Colford, makes sure everything is arranged perfectly for the Mobility Van Breakfast.
Westport Lions Roar
By Lion Bob Reddick
The Westport Lions Club would like to thank the community and individuals who contributed to the success of the Mobility Van Breakfast. This year we raised $6700 dollars up from $6022 from last year. This includes the $200 dollars from raffling off the 26 ounce bottle of maple syrup which was won by Rick Smith. Like all successful events, there are a number of people that quietly make things happen and receive very little recognition. A special thank you to Tracy and Bryan Colford who spearheaded the fundraiser and supplied all the tasty maple syrup. Mary and Terry Cowan who graciously hosted the event at The Cove and willingly supplied the kitchen staff to cook the breakfast, and along with volunteers, their staff helped serve and bus tables. All the money raised goes directly to the funding of the mobility service as all the food and supplies are donated. To give you some examples, this year we used 450 paper plates, 150 pounds of venison sausages, 80 pounds of link sausages and 45 loaves of bread. It makes one proud to live in a community that enthusiastically supports the Medical Mobility Service that provides regular and wheel chair accessible transportation to area residents to medical appointments.
The Westport Lions spring donation deadline is fast approaching. Our main focus is on our youth, their mental and physical development and seniors, their mental and physical well-being. Also, we will assist people that are in pain, suffering and in financial hardship due to illness or disaster. In terms of community requests, we ask ourselves how the donation will be beneficial to the community.
If you wish to ask for financial aid, then you should put it in writing, stating the purpose and reasons you need the financial assistance. It is always best to state the amount you need, or at least a range, and the date you need the funds by, if the request is time sensitive. You can either send the request by email, westportontariolions@gmail.com, or send it to the Westport Lions Club, PO Box 428, Westport, ON K0G 1X0. All spring requests should be received by us no later then April 25th.
