There will be a ryatt at the beach this Saturday. No, you didn’t read it incorrectly, and no, I didn’t make a spelling error. RYATT Volleyball will host their annual beach volleyball tournament on June 16th starting at 9:00 a.m. Event organizer, Marben Espejo and teams from Kingston fell in love with our beach when they participated in our volleyball tournament. Marben says, “The setting is so beautiful that it just creates a great, fun atmosphere.” All teams must be co-ed. If you want to watch some very skilled and competitive volleyball, then come to the beach this Saturday.

At our Officers’ meeting held on June 5th, the mobility program committee comprising of Lions David Blair, Michael Harris and Jim Scala recommended that with the increased usage of the program it is time to revamp the mission of the Mobility Program.    Michael Harris went over the proposed policy. The committee will make some changes to the proposal and then present the policy to the club for approval at our meeting in July. Michael received approval to place an ad in the Review-Mirror requesting volunteer drivers for the program. If you are interested please call 613-273-5789 and leave a message, or email us at westportontariolions @gmail.com.

Don Baker reported that he met with a county official and was promised that the county would fix the water flow problem coming from the mountain within a month. Lions Don Baker, Craig Jackson and community supporter, Dwain Smith, will design a plan to drain the beach property of excessive water.

Ticket sales for our two big fundraisers for the month of June are encouraging.   Lions Jim McGlade and Wayne Bent reported that we should be very close to last year’s total of 205 Lions attending our steak barbeque that will be held on June 14th. Chairperson Rick Warriner says tickets for our fish fry are selling well with over 150 sold to date. We can still accommodate many more diners so get your tickets from any Lion member. Takeout is available from 4 – 5 p.m. and regular dining is from 5 – 7:00 p.m. with a cost of $15.00 per person.

The calendar committee comprising of Rene´ Reynen, Jim McGade and Jim Scala have prepared next year’s calendars for print early in order to have them available for the Lions’ barbeque, fish fry and Canada Day. The calendars have been placed in some retail outlets around town and will be made available at all public events throughout the summer. The committee has made some improvements to the program that will make them even more desirable. The increase in prizes given out will be outlined in a future edition.
