Westport Lions Roar
By Lion Bob Reddick
Behind every successful event, there are many volunteers working behind the scenes. This was very true when the Westport Lions Club hosted their annual steak barbeque. To feed 203 people, plus our membership takes a lot of food and hard work. It would not have been possible without the help in the kitchen by Jeannette Harper, Janet Mulville, Donna Garland, Pat Reddick and Jan Gaynon. Our club is also very appreciative of the local support that we receive from the community and local merchants. I have never before witnessed such enthusiasm and cheering around the prize table.
Please support the following local business that sponsored our steak barbecue:
Jake by the Lake a Life is Good Shop The Cove
Westport IDA The Tangled Garden
New Beginnings Season’s
The Village Green Westport Home Hardware
Lake Effects Leonard Fuel
Corby Distillery
Our barbeque is the second largest event in our district, second only to the district convention. Lions attended from Pembroke, Vankleek Hill, Odessa, Sharbot Lake, Hawkesbury, Storrington and places in between. In total, 26 clubs were represented. The money raised from this event goes to maintaining the beach property.
The summer fun continued this past Saturday when 11 beach volleyball teams from Kingston, Perth and Lansdowne came to play some beach volleyball and enjoy our wonderful beach. RYATT even arranged for Trillium College to send their massage students to give free massages. A massage really felt good after flipping hamburgers and cooking sausages for the hungry participants.
Don’t forget our annual fish fry this Saturday at the beach clubhouse, starting at 4:00 p.m. for takeout, and 5-7:00 p.m. for regular dining. The cost is $15.00. Summer is here, beat the heat, come to the beach!
