Lion Marty Hawkins presents a $5,000 cheque to Harvey Day.
Westport Lions Roar
By Lion Bob Reddick
Congratulations to all our winners in the Lions’ $10,000 draw held at the beach last Saturday. Milana and Harvey Day, and Nancy Grace split the $10,000 grand prize. Both are from Westport. Fred Knapp from Westport was the first ticket drawn in this elimination draw so he picked up $100. The Lowery family won $100 because their ticket was the 125th ticket drawn out of the 250 tickets sold. Thank you to all the people who supported this fundraiser and chairperson Lion Dorothy Maynard and super salesperson Lion Marty Hawkins for making this draw such a success.
As the summer activities are winding down, the fall events are gearing up. After a summer break from general meetings, the club will meet every second and fourth Wednesday of the month to organize the Santa Claus parade, give out Christmas cakes, plan calendar sales and distribute money to donation requests.
The Westport Lions Club will host an appreciation barbeque on Tuesday, September 10th at 6:00 p.m. for all the Lions and volunteers that maintained the beach property this summer.
The Westport Lions 2019 beach season is drawing to a close but as evident last Sunday, it is still used by many people. The beach will be kept open until October 7th. The membership will take out the buoy line on September 11th but will leave the picnic tables out until October 23rd. The Lions and volunteers would like to thank the people who used the beach for their help in keeping the property clean.
The Lions’ metal recycling site at 245 Mountain Road will be closed for the season after September 28th. It will open again in May. Thank you to chairperson Lion Mike Robinson and his assistants Lions Jim McGlade, Jim Scala and Don Baker for providing this service to our community.
