Westport Lions Club Christmas parade chairperson Paul Thorp reports that Santa Claus will be in Westport on November 23rd. Santa will be in St. Edward School after the parade to hear children’s Christmas wishes and give out candy. The parade will start at St. Edward School at 2:00 p.m. This year’s route will go down Bedford Street, then turn right on to Church Street, left on Rideau Street, and finally make a left hand turn at The Cove and back to St. Edward. The theme for this year’s parade is Fairy Tales. Participants in the parade are asked to assemble at St. Edward’s parking lot by 12:30. Again this year, Lions will be collecting non-perishable food or money for the local food bank during the parade.
Lion Jim Scala reports that most of 2020 cash calendars have been sold. Winning numbers are returned to the draw so you have multiple chances to win. Lion Michael Harris tallied up the distribution of prizes. There are: 260 – $20 prizes, 48 – $40 prizes, 4 – $100 prizes, 5 – $500 prizes and 1- $1,000 prize drawn on January first. The calendars are $20.00 each or six for $100.00. Proceeds from the calendars go towards funding local financial requests and Lions causes such as vision impairment and youth diabetes. If you have not yet purchased your 2020 calendar don’t delay and purchase one soon from any Lion member or at our local stores.
At our last meeting, the Westport Lions Club distributed a total of $6,350 to 15 requests for financial aid. Our next funding allocation will be April 2020. If you or your organization wish to be included in the next distribution of funds you should put your request in writing and either email it to westportontariolions@gmail.com or send it to Westport Lions, PO Box 428, Westport, ON K0G 1X0.
The Westport Lions would like to thank non-members Joel McCulloch and Dwain Smith for taking off the bucket on our tractor and installing the snowblower and blade. This is one of those seasonal fiddly jobs that always take longer than you anticipate.
