At our June 2nd virtual meeting, Secretary Michael Harris presented a transition plan that would allow Lion Jim Scala to take over from president Wayne Bent. In these times of virtual meetings, we cannot proceed with normal procedures to install a new executive; so new ways of doing things need to be established.

Tickets sales for our annual $1500 Spring Cash Draw have been selling well despite social distancing. Several volunteers and Lion members have used innovative methods to sell tickets. Lion Marty Hawkins has set up a table in his driveway where people can purchase tickets. Volunteers Jeannette Harper and Janet Mulville have sold hundreds of dollars worth of tickets online and several lion members have taken up their lead with great success.

If you wish to purchase tickets online you can send an email to any Lion i.e. (breddick@rideau.net or westportontariolions@gmail.com) requesting the number of tickets you wish to purchase. Please include your address and/or your phone number so we can contact you if you win. Next, you need to send an e-transfer to cover the cost of the ticket(s). Tickets cost $5 each or 3 for $10. A member will fill out the ticket(s) and send you a photo of the ticket(s) so you have proof of purchase. The proceeds from this draw go towards the beach programs. The draw will take place at the Lions’ Beach, 63 Mountain Road on August 1st at 4:00 p.m. Thank you in advance for your support. Also, Neil Kudrinko has given the club permission to sell tickets in front of his store. We plan on taking every precaution to make these transactions safe for everyone.

Sadly, all Canada Day celebrations at the Lions’ beach and the fireworks have been cancelled for this year.

Also, the Medical Mobility Service continues to be suspended until further notice.

Lions Dorothy Maynard and Jim McGlade were commended for their involvement with Lions Social Connections initiative. Lion Dorothy has a list of 15 people that she makes regular social contact with. If you know of someone in our area that would benefit from this service please contact the club.

The metal recycling program is open every Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
