The Westport Lions are lucky that Santa has promised to take time from his busy schedule to visit Westport on Saturday, November 27th at 2:00 p.m. Santa will leave the St. Edward’s parking lot at 2:00 p.m. He will be pulled by a team of Chris Hagan’s horses and escorted by a fire truck down Bedford St., right onto Church St., then left onto Main St. and back up Bedford St. to St. Edward’s parking lot. After Santa’s trip around the village, he will hand out candy to the children.

There will be free hotdogs and Christmas music for everyone.  If you wish to listen to the Christmas music away from the event, you can tune in to 87.9 FM.

The Westport Lions will be collecting unwrapped toys or cash donations at the event to support this year’s toy drive.

Lions Take Over Toy Drive

The Westport Lions have taken over this year’s toy drive from long-time coordinator Melinda Held Cowan.   The Westport Club will look after children in the Newboro–Westport area, and the Elgin Lions Club will be responsible for the Elgin and Portland communities.

Westport Lion volunteer Jan Gagnon will chair this year’s collection and distribution of toys in the Newboro–Westport region. Families requesting a toy for their child/children from newborn to 12 years old should contact Jan by either calling 613-200-7476 or emailing her at jan.gagnon411@gmail.com.  She needs to know the age and sex of the child by December 6 so an appropriate toy can be given.

People interested in donating money, or an unwrapped toy can drop it off at Kudrinko’s grocery store or during Santa’s November 27 visit to Westport from 2:00 – 4:00 at St. Edward’s parking lot. The pick-up of toys for the Westport and Newboro areas will be at the Westport Lions’ clubhouse, 63 Mountain Road on December 19, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

The Westport Lions will be handing out Christmas cakes again this year on the morning of December 4.  If you are 65 or over and would like your name on the list, please contact Lion Dorothy Maynard at 613-273-2079 or dmaynard@kingston.net.
