Kim Kelly joined the Westport Lion’s Club in November 2021.  She was looking for a way to get involved in the community and the Club seemed like the perfect fit since we support a wide cross section of the community and there’s a diverse list of ways to get involved.

“So far, I’ve helped out by handing out Halloween treats, laying the Lion’s Remembrance Day wreath at the Westport Cenotaph with Lion Dorothy, and collecting toys for the Toy Drive at the Lion’s Santa Visit.”

Kim and her brother Howie grew up in the military and moved to their mother’s hometown of Westport in 1980 when their father retired from the RCAF.  Her family roots in Westport run deep, dating back to 1857 when her great-great grandparents emigrated from Ireland and moved to the Mountain.

Kim is married to Burke, and they have a 7-month-old grandson, Jameson, and two children, daughter Chelsea & Ken in Kingston and son Riley & Hannah in Westport.

Kim works as a Coordinator in the Volunteer Services department at Kingston General & Hotel Dieu Hospitals, which will bode well with the other Lion’s role she has taken on as the Membership Secretary & Volunteer Coordinator.

There are so many ways to get involved with the Lions.  Anything from one-time events like the Beach Volleyball tournament, Halloween, or the Santa Parade; to weekly commitments maintaining the beachfront, helping with the community garden, or the Reuse & Recycle Centre; and on-request roles like selling draw tickets & calendars to helping with vision and hearing screening in schools, and driving the mobility van for patients who need to access health care in and outside of our community.
