We Serve.

The Westport Lions provide eleven types of services for the people of Westport, Newboro and the surrounding areas. For more information on individual services, go to our website, westportlions.ca. or click on the service link if available.

The ongoing services the club provides are:

Reuse & Recycle Centre – The Westport Lions Reuse & Recycle Sales Centre located at 5295 Salem Road is presently closed but will open again in the spring. However, online sales are still available on their Facebook page. The R. & R. Centre is currently accepting donations if space is available. Medical Equipment Loans – are available at the R. & R. Centre.

Westport Lions Beach -is located at 63 Mountain Road and provides excellent swimming, a sandy beach, picnic areas and washrooms.

Charitable Requests – The Lions Club of Westport is dedicated to supporting our local community in various ways, including financial support for local accredited charitable or not for profit organizations that fall within our mandate of supporting:

  • Youth mental and physical development.
  • Senior mental and physical well-being.
  • Relief of pain, suffering and financial hardship due to illness or disaster.
  • Purposes beneficial to the community.

In addition, funding may be available to support individuals in need and who are impacted by one or more of the Lions 5 Pillars of Service:

  • Vision.
  • Diabetes.
  • Hunger.
  • Environment.
  • Childhood Cancer.

The club allocates funds in April and October to local organizations by assessing and ranking requests based on the above criteria. To be considered for these semi-annual disbursements, please ensure your application form for organizations or individuals is submitted no later than April 1, or October 1. Applications outside of these dates may be considered on an emergency basis.

Recycling Eyeglasses and Hearing Aids – The Westport Lions Club collects eyeglasses and hearing aids for the people of Guyana. Please drop off your glasses or hearing aids at the Westport Village Pharmacy, Westport’s LCBO, Country Roads Community Health Unit, or any Lion member. The club will take prescription glasses and sunglasses, reading glasses, and non-prescription sunglasses. Cases are not required and are not shipped to Guyana because of cost.

Christmas Cakes for Seniors – The Westport Lions distribute Christmas cakes to seniors (65+) usually on the second Saturday of December.

Community Garden – The Lions Community Garden located next to Westport’s water tower is a place where people can grow vegetables for themselves and the Westport Food Bank.

Vision Screening – Lion members conduct vision screening for students at Rideau Vista Public School and St. Edward Catholic School in Westport. These screenings alert parents to obtain professional help to correct vision problems. The club has also purchased eSight glasses for a local resident and given financial aid for a serious eye operation.

Hall Rentals – The Lions Beach House is not currently available due to COVID restrictions. Hopefully in the future, the restrictions will be lifted. Check our website for the Hall Rental Agreement Form and Events Calendar for available dates.

In addition to the ongoing services, the club organizes many events that add to the quality of life in our community. There are Halloween treats for goblins and witches, the Santa Claus parade, Mobility Breakfast, Beach Volleyball Tournament, Fish Fry, Toy Drive, Westfest, Canada Day Celebrations, Luncheons for Seniors and our lotteries which include: $10,000 Cash Calendar, $10,000 Elimination Draw and $1,500 Spring Draw.
