Procedure for Elections and Filling Vacancies

Revamped – Nov. 12, 2023

Rational for Procedure

  • Follows the Lions Constitution for elections and filling vacancies (Article II).
  • Allows the membership to be engaged in the process of executive selection.
  • Allows all members a chance to be in the leadership group.
  • Gives all members a vote on who will be on the executive.
  • Adds structure to the election process.

Nomination Committee:

The Nomination Committee is responsible to fill all vacancies and conduct the election.

Officers are all positions from 1- 8 and are elected annually except the past president.

Directors have a two-year term.  To facilitate turnover in the executive, directors will be rotated out of the executive after their two-year term.  If they wish to remain on the executive, they must seek another position on the executive.  Directors are not assigned duties until after the election.  This allows the club and elected directors flexibility in their responsibilities based on their interests and talents.   The duties will be mutually negotiated between themselves and the executive.

All officers and directors can form a committee to share the workload.  The officers and directors that are elected will represent the committee at the executive meetings.

  1. if a nominee and its opposite candidate both withdraw name before election meeting how to fill vacaancy

    1. If one or more candidates withdrawn before the election then it is the job of the nomination committee to canvas the membership to find someone to fill the position. In the past, someone always volunteers to take on the position for a year. If this does not happen, then the executive will divide the tasks of the position among the group.
