The Westport Lions Club will open their Reuse and Recycle Centre on April 26.
Westport Lions Roar
By Lion Bill Garland
Happily, spring has arrived in Westport. The snow and ice are gone, birds have returned for another season, the grass is greening, and the Westport Lions team is busy readying the R & R Centre for another summer season. Although the R & R Centre is closed over the winter, the team stays busy bringing in donations from the community. Centre managers Jeannette Harper and Bruce Maynard are pleased that the building is full, with lots of treasures waiting for a new home.
The Lions Reuse & Recycle retail concept introduced 3 years ago has proven to be an outstanding success. The Centre provides the community a multitude of benefits:
- Significantly reduces the amount of used furnishings going to landfill.
- Provides youth, seniors, cottagers, and homeowners with a low-cost source of home furnishings, decorator items, tools, sports and exercise equipment.
- Provides residents with a fast, zero cost and easy way to dispose of items which are no longer needed.
- Generates revenues that enables the Westport Lions to expand our support to the community.
- Provides a venue through which Lions members can interface directly with the public, helping us gain insights into new areas of need within the community.
- The face-to-face interaction of Lions members with the community has driven new Lions member growth.
If you have not visited the R & R Centre, please plan to drop by. We are 1 km west of the Beer Store in Westport at 5295 Salem Road. We are directly in front of the Tackaberry quarry. We will open for the 2024 season on Friday April 26th at 9 am. We will be open Friday’s and Saturday’s from 9 am to 1 pm until the fall.
Managers Bruce and Jeannette are pleased to announce that the R & R Team members from last year will be back to support you again in 2024. Our 25 team members have a great time meeting and supporting the public.
We will offer on-line sales again this year on the Westport Lions Reuse & Recycle Facebook page. We accept metal and electronic recycling items, offer our Medical Equipment Loaning Program and a drop off location for lead fishing tackle in support of the Wolfe Lake Association’s “Get the Lead Out Program” (fishleadfree.ca).
You can communicate with the R & R Centre using Facebook messaging for the fastest response or leave a message at 613 273-5789. We also accept debit and credit payments.
Thanks to all our supporting customers and we look forward to seeing you and serving you again starting Friday April 26th.
