Lion members now have $10,000 elimination draw tickets available to purchase. There are only 260 tickets printed, so your odds of winning a prize are favourable. Each ticket costs $100. Alternatively, some people form a group to purchase a ticket and split the $10,000 grand prize.
The elimination draw will take place at the Lions’ Beach starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10. With the purchase of a ticket, you can enjoy a complimentary lunch consisting of roast beef on a kaiser roll with all the fixings, coleslaw, and a dessert square. Lunch will be served from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
In addition to the grand prize of $10,000, you could also win several of the $100 prizes. The first ticket drawn wins $100; the 130th ticket drawn wins $100; as well as the third and fourth-last ticket drawn. The second-to-last ticket drawn could win $100 if the last ticket drawn chooses not to split $10,000.
When purchasing a ticket, buyers must indicate whether they would like to split the prize 50/50 if they end up being one of the last two tickets remaining in the draw.
At the Westport Lions Executive meeting held on September 1, it was decided that this year’s theme for the Santa Claus parade on Saturday, November 28, will be The Magic of a Westport Christmas. Lion Marty Hawkins has already started assembling his committee to plan for the parade. A discussion about the parade led to a conversation about the ongoing generosity of Westport and area businesses. The executive felt that the club should acknowledge the support of merchants by organizing Appreciation Night, perhaps in January, when the businesses are not as busy.
In other business, President Lowery has been contacted by Dave Miller, who is interested in donating a park bench for our property near the Trailhead on Mountain Road. The Board approved the proposal but is waiting for further information on the installation of the bench.
Lion Craig Jackson reported on the maintenance projects that have taken place at the clubhouse this summer. Lion Dan Lewis has started to put some new siding on the clubhouse; two new toilets were installed in the change rooms and new vanities in the clubhouse upstairs washrooms.
Instead of our regular meeting on September 23, the membership will travel to Seeley’s Bay to meet the new District Governor Kim Sheldrick. The Seeley’s Bay club is always very welcoming and provides a delicious meal.
Other upcoming events that the membership will participate in are the Prescott Lions Golf Tournament on September 25 and the Westport Senior Living Fall Fair on October 6 at the Westport Legion from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
