Westport Lions Roar
By Lion Bob Reddick
As I enjoyed listening to great music on a beautiful, sunny day at the recent WestPorch, I reflected on how lucky I am to be alive and live in Westport.
Where else can you be entertained in such a beautiful town for only a donation of your choosing? Rather than comparing ourselves to other people, we should give gratitude to the people who step up to organize events, the sponsors and the people who give freely of their time to help. It can be stressful to organize an event; you are setting yourself up for a lot of work and possibly much criticism. Everyone has talents; what you do with those talents can be your gift back to the community.
Jeremy Barr has a talent for organizing events. When he heard that WestPorch could end, he reached out to Seamus Cown of The Cove Inn. Together with counsellor Marty Crapper and Ken Rose, they formed a committee to organize this year’s highly successful WestPorch.
Let us give gratitude to organizations that enrich our lives such as the Westport Arts Council, the Legion, Westport Blooms, the Food Bank and Westport Senior Living.
Let us give gratitude to all the people who maintained and cleaned the beach and washrooms that enable the swimmers, volleyball players and sun worshipers to enjoy another record-breaking year at the Westport Lions Beach. Thanks to the volunteers and Lions that worked at the Reuse and Recycle Centre and coordinated the medical equipment loans. The clients of the Lions’ Medical Mobility Service and food bank should be appreciative of the dedicated volunteers who maintain these services.
As many summer activities come to a close and we return to our fall routines, it is time to thank the many people who enrich our lives.

Accurate, sensitive and wonderfully expressed, Bob. Barry and Julia Winfield
