Curtis Brown, Easter Seals Ambassador for Leeds and Grenville area, is very proud of the success of the seventh annual, “Bowl-a-Thon” for Easter Seals Kids held on Feb. 10 and 11 in Elgin.
The Westport Lions Club fielded a team for this worthy cause and Lions John Rempel, Don Baker, Bob Reddick, Dave Lowery and David Blair, their bowling captain, did a great job. It was an excellent social event and a fierce competition but they didn’t bring home the trophy. They started out in top form as they competed against Elgin Lions and Lioness members and were bowling like old pro’s, but by the third game the tide turned and Westport fell behind. In the end Elgin won by a narrow margin. But the Westport bowlers lucked out on the door prizes and each one had a special momento to take home.
It was a fun time, and was for a good cause to add to the amount raised for these very deserving young people. Everyone is looking forward to June 2013 match and under their Bowling competition led by Lion Dave Blair, hope to over power their Elgin rivals. This annual event has become very popular, it provides a break in the overcast dull days of the winter and is enjoyed by participants and onlookers as well. The sum of $3,041. was raised bringing the grand total over the seven years to over $10,000. a worthy effort.
Westport Lions Mobility Van has been extremely busy this winter and the volunteer Westport Lions drivers have been great and with ice making driving difficult it has been a blessing.
