Westport Lions Roar
By Lion Bob Reddick
Lions Jim McGlade, Bill Garland, Harry Beckett and Bob Reddick took out the swimming buoys last Saturday, marking the end of the swimming season at the beach. The picnic tables will not be stored until after Thanksgiving. It was nice to see a record number of people using the beach this summer. It makes all the hard work worthwhile.
A dedicated group of ten Lions and volunteers kept the beach and grounds looking pristine. Thank you to Donna Roth, Joel McCulloch, Dwain Smith, Dale Lyons, Wayne Bent and Jim Scala for cleaning the beach every day. Harry Beckett, Jim McGlade and Bob Reddick were responsible for cutting and trimming the grass. David Blair got all the equipment ready for the summer season.
The Westport Lions thank all beach goers for following the rules and removing their garbage from the site. For the number of people that used the beach this summer, there was very little garbage for the beach crew to pick up.
A reminder to anyone doing a fall clean-up that the Lions’ metal recycling depot located at 245 Mountain Road will be open from 9:00 a.m. to noon until October 3rd. Now is a good time to get rid of your metal junk.
Finally, congratulations to Lion Jim Scala and soon to be Lion Cheryl Couper on their recent marriage. The Westport Lions wish the happy couple many years of good health and happiness together.
