Lions’ Medical Mobility Service Resumes Monday

Starting Oct. 5, the Lions will begin transporting people to doctors’ appointments, but under new rules.

The Lions’ Medical Mobility Service is back serving the residents of the Elgin and Westport areas. Starting on October 5^th, the MMS will begin transporting people to their doctors’ appointments, but under new rules. The new protocols are designed to keep volunteer drivers and clients safe.

The caravan will be the only vehicle used. We regret that we cannot accommodate clients that have mobility issues. All passengers must be able to get in and out of the vehicle unassisted. The caravan is fitted with a screen for the driver’s protection, and the client will be required to sit in the back seat. The driver and client must wear facemasks at all times. The client uses the rear curbside door to enter and exit the van. If the passenger wishes to leave a donation he/she will place it on the seat. Upon returning to the Lions’ garage, the driver disinfects all touched surfaces.

If you wish to book transportation to a medical appointment, you should call 613-273-5789 and leave a message at least one week before the appointment. This message should include the your name, civic address, phone number and the date, time and location of the appointment. With limited volunteers available, and only one van in operation, the earlier you book the better the chance we will be able to transport you. We can accommodate one client per day, Monday to Friday.

In the event we cannot fulfill a request, we will try to notify the client at least 48 hours in advance so they can make alternative arrangements.
