Lions’ Reuse and Recycle Centre Opens April 28

The Westport Lions Reuse and Recycle Centre opens for its third season on Friday, April 28.

The Westport Lions Reuse and Recycle Sales Centre, located at 5295 Salem Road, will open for its third season on Friday, April 28, 2023. The Centre will be open Fridays and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from April 28 to the end of September.

The R&R first opened in 2021, the brainchild of Lions Jim Scala and Chery Couper-Scala. The use of the Salem Road building for the Centre has been generously donated by George Tackaberry of G. Tackaberry & Sons Construction Co. Ltd. The Centre is entirely staffed by volunteers and is dedicated to reducing the number of unwanted items placed in landfill through the sale of articles that can be reused and through recycling metal and e-waste. Reusable items are donated by the public and are sold at extremely reasonable prices (so our customers tell us). All money raised supports the Lions Club Beach House and our public service activities.

The Centre accepts donations of articles in good condition that are suitable for resale including furnishings, electrical appliances, art and décor items, tools, building supplies and hardware, exercise, and sports equipment. We regret we cannot accept items such as clothing, housewares, mattresses, gas or propane powered items, baby articles, weapons, bathroom fixtures, thermostats/fire alarms. A complete list of what we can and cannot accept for resale is available at the Centre.

You can shop our inventory in person at the R&R, exploring our three display rooms and our large upstairs area or you can view and purchase items on our Facebook page – Westport Lions Club Reuse & Recycle Sales Centre. We accept cash, credit/debit, cheque, and e-transfer.

If you have items you would like to donate, please call 613-273-5789 and select the Reuse and Recycling option to leave a message. It is greatly appreciated if you can provide pictures of the items you wish to donate for resale.

In addition to our regular sales and recycling activities, the R&R Centre is home to the Westport Lions Medical Assistive Devices Loan Program which includes a variety of non-powered items for temporary loan. We have also hosted environmental initiatives such as the distribution of the spongy moth lures during the summer of 2021 and the Wolf Lake Association’s Lead Buy Back Program. Beside the cash is a collection box for usable eyeglasses in support of the Lions Club Recycle for Sight program.
