Lion Dave Blair gets an early start is gathering litter from area roads.

Westport Lions Roar

By Lion Bob Reddick

On Saturday, April 29 the Westport Lions in conjunction with Rideau Lakes Township is organizing a PITCH-IN day to collect roadside litter.  Participants will meet at the Lions’ clubhouse at 63 Mountain Road between 9:00 and 9:30 and will be given bags and assigned an area road.

Volunteers will meet back at the clubhouse to enjoy a free barbecue lunch provided by the Club.  Last year, Lions and volunteers picked up a total of 41 bags of litter and 280 beer cans.

Yellow PITCH-IN bags are available free of charge from libraries, the township office, or by contacting Ben Rothwell at 1-800-928-2250 Ext 230 or emailing him

at brothwell@rideaulakes.ca. The Rideau Lakes’ PITCH- IN initiative runs from April 16 to 29.

Please place only roadside litter in the bags and leave them for your regular garbage pick-up.  No tags are required.

This is a great opportunity for families to enjoy a memorable time together.  What can be better than spending time with your grandchildren or children working together to keep our environment clean?
