Members of the Westport Lions Club met at their club house at Sand Lake Beach for their Sept 14th meeting with 16 members and 1 guest, John Geils, present. Club president, Kevin Northcott was in the chair and the club was pleased to receive a letter of appreciation from Garret A. Doreleyers, who was the recipient of the cash award at Rideau District High School for achieving the highest overall average on the best 12 Senior division credits.
In response to a request for financial support for Camp Dorset, the retreat for vacation time for those requiring dialysis treatment, they agreed to channel the amount given through District A-4 representative, Hal Wagner.
Everyone was brought up to date on the Lions Club internet website by Lion Pat McGinnis. There is a need for four volunteers from the club to support his initiative of westportlions.ca. This would enable four teams to train with Larry Reside to have this project up and running. “With the required personnel”, Pat told them, “the club will be able to get onsite and present issues will be resolved as they begin to populate the website.”
Among the upcoming events is the White Cane Day, a fundraiser for the CNIB center at Lake Joseph in the Muskoka’s and the collection centres are: Village Esso, Village Green, The Beer Store, and Kudrinko’s. To complete the four teams, two more lions members are needed, one for 9am to 12 noon at the Village Green and one for 12 noon to 2pm at Kudrinko’s. This has always been a very successful project and for a worthy cause.
