The Westport Lions Club has initiated a fundraising project which will turn unwanted scrap metal into dollars for the Lions projects in the community.
The club has acquired a bin for the collection which was installed at 9160 Cty Rd 42 last Friday.
“It’s a trial. We thought we might do it twice a year” said Don Baker, who sees there is an opportunity to combine recycling and fundraising.
With the closure of the North Crosby/Westport landfill site, local residents no longer have an environmentally responsible and convenient method of disposing of scrap metal.
The group is seeking all kinds of metal except for batteries and fridges.
